MY EDUCATION

PROFESSIONAL AFFILIATIONS

For nearly 30 years, my career has focused on working with adolescents and adults in areas of trauma, abuse, suicide, and mental illness.

I have worked in both public and private settings including San Diego County Child Protective Services, private schools for emotionally disturbed teens, and Seattle Children's Hospital where I worked for 10 years as an ER Social Worker.  I've had extensive experience being an advocate for teens in courts, hospitals, and schools.  I now use my private practice to reach people on a personal level for their own healing.  I believe that any teen or adult can move beyond their own pain and suffering into a life worth living.  I specialize in working with adolescents and young adults that are experiencing multiple problems in multiple areas of their lives using evidenced-based modalities, such as Dialectical Behavior Therapy and Cognitive Behavior Therapy.  Mindfulness and self-compassion are also core components of my work with clients, as these are such important practices for anyone wishing to reduce their own suffering.

My passion for helping people began with my undergraduate studies.  After obtaining my Bachelor's degree in Psychology from the State University of New York College at Fredonia in 1992, I received my Masters in Social Work from Arizona State University in 1994.  I am a Masters level Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) licensed in Washington, New York, and California.  I have been licensed since 2001.

I am a
DBT-Linehan Board of Certification, Certified Clinician™ through Behavioral Tech, LLC in Seattle, WA.  DBT is an evidenced-based treatment developed by Marsha Linehan, PhD., at the University of Washington. In DBT, behavioral change is balanced with acceptance, compassion and validation.  I continue to receive training on advanced topics in DBT, mindfulness, and suicide prevention.
